I'm Definitely Intrigued - Clues 4 and 5

I'm a little behind with the clues.  We spent a week in NC for Christmas and then I came home with either the flu or with some yucky virus.  I've finally felt well enough to be vertical, do some laundry, unpack and spend some time at the machine.  So all my clues are not finished, but at least I've done some of each.

Clue 4 has been kind of awkward for me.  The pieces have to be in exactly the right position and it's not easy to get into a rhythm.

Clue 5 was super easy, just squares.

So this is where things are right now.  With grey, cloudy skies in Pensacola, working with these colors has been so enjoyable.  My friend Linda at FlourishingPalms thinks maybe I've gone over to the "Bright Side" LOL.  Not so sure about that, but I have enjoyed these colors and I am so anxious to see where this is going.

My DGD had a show and share for me when we got to Charlotte.  She had displayed both of the quilts we've worked on together.

She was so excited to show me.

The best part of my Christmas this year was spending the day with these people, my family.  It was the first time in about 7 or 8 years we have all been together.  My brother, sister and I are so blessed to have been raised by these Godly and precious people.  I do not take it for granted to still have them in my life.

Forty Years Ago...

40 years ago yesterday, I married my college sweetheart and we started this great adventure. It still doesn't seem possible that 40 years have gone by.  I think this picture has faded a little, but that powder blue tux still looks pretty good - gotta love the 70's!!

You can see the cake topper, it's filled with freshly cut lilacs picked that morning from my backyard.  Lilacs are one of the things I miss most about living in Rochester.

But I still have the cake topper, and I bought some silk lilacs many years ago to remind me.

This is the most recent picture of our family taken last Thanksgiving.

Since this was taken, we found out we have a new baby due in July.  Karis will have a baby brother named Jack.  We can't wait.

I am very blessed.

Perseverance

I am happy to say that my flying geese are done!!!

I kept tweaking my technique and got faster and faster. 

It is nice seeing all those perfect points.  Aren't these great fabrics??  Now it's on to the applique :).

Here's the start of a new project - only need about 900 hst's.  This is a great start. It's a gift, so I can't share more now but it's a step in a new direction for me.

And my DD sent this, we look a little more revived than the last one, maybe I should always take pictures sitting down LOL!!  I love these little people.

Graduation Quilt

Since I'm fairly new to "Blogland" I hope it's okay to post about past projects. This is a quilt I made for my youngest niece when she graduated from Florida State University. I love Karla Alexander's books. I've made several quilts from these books and they are fast and fun. And, they look much more complicated than they really are.

This is the pattern I used. It looks so different done in soft earth tones.

This quilting design is based on the methods in Meandering Magic by Suzanne Earley. I'd never done it before, and I was pretty happy with how it turned out.

You can draw a stem line freehand, but I drew one out on paper first and then traced it. The feathers are done freehand and I promise you, this looks so cool.

For each graduation quilt, I have either appliqued or embroidered the name of the school and the year.

She and her husband still work and live in Tallahasse.
