A Sweet Memory - Blogger's Quilt Festival

Welcome to my quilt for Amy's Fall Blogger's Quilt Festival.  Be sure to pop in and see all the great quilts.

It all started 2010.  I had discovered Kaffe Fasset and began collecting some of his fabrics and some brights that coordinated with them.  I'd made several "bright" quilts but was still wanting to make one more.  I found a pattern in a magazine and modified to suit me and decided to see what happened.
I prepped some strips for a road trip and was able to cut a bunch of blocks out.
They all looked so pretty.
I was really liking where this was going.  Not sure where I would end up, but I was happy.  The only constant was that each block had the same Kaffe fabric.
I must tell you, making these blocks was addictive.  They grew and grew.....
until I had this many.

And then my granddaughter and her family came for a visit.  She brought her own sewing machine and wanted to make a quilt.  She was 7 years old that summer!!
She saw my Kaffe quilt up on the design wall and wanted to make one just like her Nana Girl :).  Of course I couldn't say no.  She went thru my stash and picked all the fabrics herself.  She made her own choices for each block and auditioned them on hew own design wall.  Her instincts were spot on!
Here she is sewing the blocks together - she got really good at that 1/4" seam allowance too.
And then it was time for me to quilt it.
She looks so proud...

and here we are together with our matching quilts.
Since then, I have finished my quilt.  It stays over the back of my quilting chair and I get to enjoy it every day.
Here are the little bright kitties.
I did an overall meandering feather vine.
The journey of this quilt is indeed a sweet memory.
Have a great day,
Karen

Can You Guess??

Okay, first clue. Here's the piles of cut pieces. Can you guess what project?
Okay, here's the second clue.... Schnibbles! I've finally picked a pattern - yea!! It was really hard - they are all so cute!!! Can you guess which pattern I've picked?? Well, you'll have to wait :). I'll let you know as soon as I've made the top.
Here's my latest purchase - the one on the right (Spirit by Lila Tueller) is going to be the backing for the owl and bird quilt for my granddaughter. I'm ready to baste - yea! And I'm slowly adding to my Kaffe collection, here are pieces # 2, 3 and 4. Can you believe it - I'm up to 4 whole pieces!!
And here's the start of my next project. This is not a very good picture. When I have all the fabrics pulled, I'll take another. It may not look like much, but it's for our newest guild challenge called "Chasing the Rainbow". I'll tell more about that later.
So until next time, make something beautiful.

Piles of Projects!

I'm not sure what my problem is, lately I just keep going from one project to another. Can't quite get into a rhythm. I took my camera to my studio and literally turned in a circle and saw pile after pile of projects. Here's the 2 partially finished pineapple blocks that Kim and I started. We're not sure they will ever become a quilt (big sigh). As much as I don't want to, we may be going to Plan B. Here are the scraps of the strips used in the 2 blocks, still on my cutting table.
Here's the original Kaffe fabric I bought several weeks ago and the 2 1/2" strips I've cut. Not sure what I'm going to do with these - but these still make me happy.
This is a project for the guild up on my design wall. These are the fabrics that I got in the jelly roll swap. I'll do a post about that soon.
Trying to decide on color combinations.
Three more blocks ready to go on the design wall.
These are the fabrics I've been collecting for my next quilt for our quilt show. I'm still working on a pattern/ layout. I've got ideas but so far they're just on paper. I am very excited about this quilt, I need to sit down and start on it soon. This will include fabric that I dyed myself! Took a class last fall, putting this in one of my quilts will be a first for me. Another reason I'm excited.
This is a T-shirt quilt that is almost ready to baste. I've got to get another piece of fabric to add to the back. I just bought an open toe darning foot. Can't wait to try it out and see if makes any diffenence in the quilting.
This is a basket of pinks that I cut into strips for a new project that I put together for our last road trip when we went to Asheville (I always try to plan a project - even if I don't work on it).
Here's a peek at my new tree. This is what I'm currently working on, trying to get done. I always forget how long it takes to applique, but I do love it.
So until next time, make something beautiful.
