So Much to Learn

Thanks for all the encouragement about taking Jane's class.  Let me just say she is amazing and I am a very newbie Art Quilter.  Pretty much the whole day I struggled and felt very out of it.  While I do like to work organically and let my quilts grow as they speak to me, making an art quilt is something else entirely.
This is my class project.  This is a work in progress. I can guarantee you that it will look different and hopefully better than this when its done.  I'm really counting on that as it looks sort of pitiful to me at this point. I didn't bring enough fabrics to play with these colors so it's definitely lacking something LOL!!

Jane's work is is inspiring.

Even the backs are beautiful.
She is a wonderful teacher and I had a great day.  A lot of my class projects never get done, but I promise to finish this one.
Happy stitching.
Karen

I'm happy for you to have had this chance to take a class from Jane. While that style isn't mine, I sure appreciate the challenges of making an art quilt. I struggle with letting my quilts "tell me what to do," and will experience it first-hand when I take Sherri Lynn Woods' improv workshop on October 6. Cutting without using a ruler! I know I'm going to be pushed, just as it sounds like you were. Your colors are great. Now to see how you tweak the whole thing. Have fun!

So while you struggled with the art quilt technique did you learn circle sewing techniques that will make other projects fun?

I practically turned one of her books inside out reading through the entire thing. What an amazing day for you!

Your project looks like fun! I bet you will hear the voice of this quilt without too much trouble. I'm with you, I would feel very out of it, too! I think just trying something new that pushes us out of our comfort zone can be a good thing, though.

I would NOT call it pitiful! Looks like it was a day well spent with lots of learning and fabric, that's a win-win. Good for you!
