Memory Quilt #1 Quilting Design

I am ready to start the quilting on my memory quilts (4 in all) and decided to start with this one.  It's basted and ready to go. My question is simple *wink*, how should I quilt it?!
This still seems to be a stumbling block for me.  Should I stitch through the diagonal line both ways in a big "X" and then some fill-in lines or go for an overall swirl?  Something that would contrast with all the straight lines?
Any opinions out there? Has anyone quilted  a quilt using this block?
Curious minds want to know :).
Happy  Friday stitching,
Karen

Have you tried spiral quilting? Looks great on a block type quilt. The centre is a bit tricky to start but once you have that nailed you are away, going round and round with the edge of the walking foot as a guide. Check out the blog called Crazy Mom Quilts - she posted about it in January 2014 with a link to amgreat tutorial.

Maybe a diagonal cross hatch, or any design that you would use on a log cabin block?

I was going to say spiral too.

I've probably said this before, but it have never forgotten the first advice I was told about choosing quilting designs: Contrast your quilting with the piecing. You have linear piecing, so quilting should be curves. How about an all over snail trail design? Or clam shell? That is if you're not up to a custom design. I know you'll quilt what needs to be quilted.

This is where I always falter as well! I guess it just depends on how much time you want to spend with it.:)

i haven't made this block, but i would be inclined to sew through on the diagonal in both directions.

Beautiful quilt! I did one similar, and hand quilted with big stitch in the squares, following the stripes, about an inch apart.
