Have an Opinion??

I have been spending some quality time with all the pretty, little petals of my Jubilee quilt - all 224 of them!!  I'm finally out to the border - can I just say "Yay" !?!  You can see by the 1/2" quilting that these little darlings are about 1" each.  I'm slowly getting there - I'm almost ready to start the last side. :)

But that's not what I need an opinion about.  I'm doing a program for my Guild next week on Blogging (not exactly sure why I volunteered for that!!).  At least one other person will be sharing.  What I'd like to know from you is what is your favorite thing about blogging.  It can be anything.  And for those of you who have been following me a while and have never left me a comment - now would be a great time to start.

Hope to hear from lots of you, or it may be a VERY short program LOL.
Have a great day,
Karen

I enjoy having a quilt blog because of the inspiration I receive from other quilters. I enjoy connecting with people round the world who have a like interest. You learn what styles and techniques are popular in other countries. For instance, embroidery added to quilts was very popular in England and Australia when I first started my quilt blog. And since then, it is something I have added touches of in my own quilts. And medallion style quilts are so popular elsewhere. Very intricate rounds of piecing, applique, and embroidery. I have made friends with people I never would have connected with otherwise and have had the pleasure of meeting a couple of them in person. I have been involved in trades and round robins. I so enjoy in sharing what I create and enjoy seeing what others do. I consider the quilt blogs a tool in my path down the quilting road.

Karen, I found your blog through Jan at SewandSew Farm and have been in awe as I scroll through your posts! Pink Pickles is absolutely stunning! I'm so glad I stopped in.

my favorite part is making a personal journal of my life in photos. I've self published my blog each year so that it has a place in the "real world" too.
good luck with the program.

p.s. also I've enjoyed meeting and making friends with lots of quilters all over the world.

At first I started my blog as a journal but I was surprised by all the other benefits. Mostly it's the connection and friendships with like minded people.
Good luck with your talk.

Blogging has changed everything about how I quilt now! From the way I organize my fabric, get inspiration for a project, and even the way I label a quilt when it's done.....it's all changed since I started blogging. And I know I'm more productive now, because I'm always wanting to share something I've been working on. I also love the feeling of community here on the quilting blogs.....there are not very many quilters in my area, so sharing here is really wonderful. And I learn so much from other's blogs....I know I'm a better quilter for it!

Why I blog has changed over the five years since I started. At first it was so I could enter giveaways, but it's grown into a diary of my quilting and my life. And reading other blogs inspires me and gives me new ideas for quilts to make (like I need any more ideas than I already have! LOL)

First is the many things I have learned from other bloggers and how they will answer questions with more information. I probably wouldn't have started free motion quilting if I hadn't seen other bloggers doing it. Next, is making friends and even getting to meet them in person! And of course, inspiration - too much of it sometimes!

Blogging is like playing "hopscotch" with quilty friends! Its all about the sharing, what projects are being stitched, free patterns, giveaways.I especially like how it makes me feel like I get to know the person even though I may have never even met them!

I love keeping track of all my projects, step by step--the stumbles and the victories too. Also, it's great to have feedback on what I'm doing from people who are obviously interested in quilting! My family is wonderful, but I already know what they're going to say.:) Last but not least is the great on-line quilty friends I've discovered. Very fun stuff!

Making friends all round the world (and even meeting some of them in person)is a major reason for me. Also, I love to see the new styles/trends/colours/ etc. I find I can learn new techniques, get answers to things I'm not sure about and generally feel part of a quilting community.

Easy peasy! Making new friends throughout the world! I've kept tabs on the number of bloggers I've met face-to-face and at last count that was 14. I can't wait to add you to that list! Though, if you count Skypeing too, add yourself and another Australian quilter to that total and it's 16! You'll do great with the presentation.

I think my biggest reason for blogging is the feeling of "connectedness" with other quilters. I started reading blogs for inspiration, but I've found over the years what I really enjoy is getting to know quilters from all over the world and sharing the joy and frustration we all experience with quilting. I began blogging as a way to participate in that online community, and I really appreciate having a place to share my quilting projects, especially since I don't belong to a local quilt guild.

Another great aspect of blogging is the creative inspiration. Inspiration from blogs is ever-changing and immediate. Yes, there are lots of quilting fads that get blogged about, but there are also so many day to day personal touches, quirks, techniques and designs being posted. It can be overwhelming at times! The thing about being inspired by other blogging quilters is that it's personal, something that comes to you from a familiar "friend" (even though you may have never met in person) rather than an impersonal magazine or book.

I started blogging just over a year ago. I started because I wanted to keep better track of my progress on each of my quilts. It has been a very fun, educational and inspiring year. I have learned so much about how to blog and my daughter in law has helped the look of my blog but I have been so inspired by other bloggers that I now am doing some very old embroidery work, linking up with others and have been working on some free Craftsy classes making blocks all because of other bloggers. I also do not belong to a guild or have friends that really quilt so this makes me feel very connected. Thanks for the opportunity to share.

What I like best about quilt blogging is finding other like minded quilters to be inspired by, encouraged by, and share friendship with. I do like the personal journal that my own blog is for me too. Good luck with your talk :0)

I read through the previous comments and I could say "Yes!" to all of the responses! Being somewhat of a hermit, blogging connects me to other people who have different styles, inspires me with new ideas and helps solve quilting problems I might have. It also keeps me accountable about my progress and provides a record about my quilts. I hope you inspire many new quilting bloggers!

Oh, cute petals! I have been blogging for five years and am still thrilled to see all the creativity that needle meeting fabric can encompass. I have also met a lot of terrific people, a few even in person, with whom I share this quilting passion. Mostly I think this is what the internet is really supposed to do, help make connections with others!

I have read your blog for years but am not sure I have ever commented on it or not. However, I can tell you what I love about visiting other people's blogs (I do not have my own). It's all the "eye candy". Even though I may not have time to do any quilting on a given day I can "pop in" and find some inspiration or something beautiful that someone else got to work on and it makes me feel better. Kind of keeps me motivated to get back to all the projects I dream of making. Love your tradition of putting a cat on each quilt - I am a fellow cat lover.

You have so much patience! Those petals are so tiny! I can't wait to see this one in person. And speaking of "in person," we need to do lunch soon. I want to hear all about your program.
