Taking a Slight Detour

I've spent the last few days making some much needed progress on this quilt - In Full Bloom. It's the opportunity quilt I'm designing for our guild's quilt show next year. The vine borders were laid out and lots (and lots) of leaves were made - thank you Alice!!
I finally decided on the green batik (by Edyta Sitar, Love Letters line) to use for the inner borders.  The first sawtooth border was almost done.
Here you can see the second sawtooth border is almost finished - everything seemed to be humming along until.....
I got the doctor's diagnosis this morning - I have shingles!!  How did that happen??  He asked me if I'd had any stressers lately.  When I mentioned that I had gone back to work and was trying to learn Excel he laughed and said that would be enough to stress anybody!! (Not sure if he was serious or not!!)
So I've started the medicine and I'm hoping for the best.  I've heard horror stories about the pain, but I'm trying to stay positive.  Working on this beautiful thing is a good way to keep my mind off the pain.  I'm hoping I've caught it early.  So for the moment, I'm still appliqueing vines and leaves.  Wish me luck!!
Hope you're having a good Wednesday,
Karen

First of all, the quilt you are working on is a very good design. I certainly like the applique center.

I had a light case of shingles maybe 1 1/2 years ago. I had them just on my left arm. I went to the walk-in doctor on a weekend because I was having so much pain. That was before the pimple like things broke out. The doctor thought I was having an arthritis thing going in the shoulder and gave me prednisone. The medication did help the pain. My regular doctor says the shingles can return again so I plan on getting a shingles vaccine shot very soon. I hope your shingles behave and are not the really bad kind.

Oh my poor dear! Those TV commercials about shingles would have me terrified about getting them, so I can imagine that you're trying to psychologically ward off any pain. It does seem that quilting would be excellent therapy! And it looks like this quilt is coming along beautifully. Do take care of yourself. Don't let that Excel get to you!

Get well soon. I had them last year, but was lucky, I caught it early and got started on medication quickly which meant it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. It's a good opportunity to curl up with some good books and magazines though.

your quilt is beautiful. I hope you have a mild case and caught the shingles early. yuck, yuck. I took an Excel class years ago (remember next to nothing) but it would definitely be a stressor on top of a new job and routine.
take care

I hope your road to recovery is quick and as pain-free as possible! Having a positive attitude will certainly be good medicine. The opportunity quilt looks wonderful - can't wait to be able to purchase tickets! Gosh, maybe I could even attend the show.

Stunning quilt. Very bummed to read about the shingles. Hope it's a mild case.

That quilt is lovely. Please take good care of yourself because I hear that shingles are painful.

No personal experience with shingles, but I type about the condition off and on. It doesn't sound like fun, but once the diagnosis is made, then the healing can begin. Try to take it easy, young lady!
Love your guild quilt. It's going to be a stunner.

So sorry to hear you have shingles but hope medication started early enough to be a mild case! I had shingles again in June and after talking with my dr....he said STRESS most likely since I had had the vaccine, after my first bout of shingles. This bout of shingles helped me make my decision to finally retire in July!
By the way, went to Mary Jo's Thursday and added to my civil war fabrics.
